πCustom Domain Setup
Redirecting the RareCircle storefront webpage to the merchant's custom website and branding.
Creating a Website
By default, the RareCircles storefront is store.rarecircles.com/merchantstorename
when using the Website Builder (Beta) feature. RareCircles offers the ability for merchants to connect their main website to the storefront and checkout experience via custom domain setup.
It is not necessary to create a website. Merchants are welcome to rely only on RareCircles' Website Builder (Beta)which is the storefront and checkout webpages only and proceed with the steps in this guide only if custom domain is desired.
If setting up a website or linking custom domains are not necessary or desired, skip the custom domain section entirely.
Introduction to Web Domains and Subdomains
A web domain is essentially the web address one would type into a web browser.
A web subdomain is the prefix that is added to a domain that helps to organize and navigate different webpages and paths on a website.
For example:
example.com - the root domain
store.example.com - the subdomain and domain together
Want to set up a custom website separate from RareCircles' storefront and checkout, but not sure what to do? Skip this section and head to Set Up a Website first for detailed instructions.
Custom domains allow merchants to use their own branding without having to use the default main RareCircles brand when using RC products.
With the RareCircles product suite, you have two options when setting up your custom domain. You can either:
Connect your RareCircles account with a new domain (ie. www.project.xyz)
Connect your RareCircles account to a subdomain on an existing website (ie. mint.project.xyz)
How to set up a new domain
If you do not already have a domain, you can purchase your preferred domain through a number of domain registrars such as GoDaddy, Google Domains, NameCheap, etcβ¦Note that if you already have a domain, you can skip this step.
Navigate to your preferred domain registrar
Enter your domain name of choice and check availability
Continue steps to purchase
Setup custom A records for your destination URL
A records are used to map a domain to an IP address. We use A records to point your domain to your projectβs RareCircleβs account.
Navigate to your destination domain and click the option for DNS management.
Click add a new A Record and input the following IP address.
Remove all other A Records and CNAME records.
How to set up a subdomain
If you already own a domain and would like to use it to host your RareCircles project, you can choose to add a subdomain (ie. mint.project.xyz).
Log into your domain registrar account
Navigate to your domain and click the option for DNS management
Click add a new record
Select A type record
In the name field, add the desired subdomain (ie. mint.project.xyz)
In the value field add an A Record with the following IP Address
Configuring your Custom Domain with RareCircles
Let customer support know when the A Record has been updated.
Provide the domain or subdomain selected
Provide support with your project slug (account name or string of numbers and letters found in the URL of the Storefront design page)
Allow 5-7 business days for the RareCircles team to configure the mapping.
Once the custom domain is ready, confirm the project is published on merchant portal.
Note that if you complete this process before you publish your storefront, the URL will return a 404 page.
